Types of Roofing

Sloped Roofing Applications

Sloped Roofing relies on the principal of shedding water to carry it to a system that removes it from the roof. Sloped roofing systems are water resistant not waterproof, therefore free-standing water on a sloped roofing system will result in water penetrating the system.

Flat Roofing Applications

Flat Roofing application are used on slopes roofs with slopes of less than 3:12 slope. These systems are considered waterproofing meaning they are completely impenetrable to water and can have free standing water without leaking or compromising the roofing system.

Sloped Roofing Materials

Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt Shingles
Laminate shingles are also known as “laminated architectural” or just “architectural” shingles. They are a type of asphalt shingle, but are built with a heavier base mat and multiple material layers of a more refined type of asphalt.

Cedar Shakes/Shingles

Cedar Shake Shingles
If it’s a rustic alpine look you’re going for, cedar shingles are a great option. Cedar wood is long-lasting, making it an ideal roofing material.

Cedar wood roofs are also energy efficient, providing a natural insulation up to two times that of asphalt shingles.

Metal Panel Roofing

Metal Panel Roofing
A lightweight, durable roofing system which is useful for large and or old structures, as it helps to maintain the overall structural integrity of the building.

Despite its lightweight properties, metal roofing provides increased wind and fire resistance when compared to other roofing materials. This is because metal roofing systems use interlocking panels.

Standing Seam Metal Roofing

Standing seam metal roofing is a particular type of metal roofing that raises the seams above the level of the roofing itself creating a visually elegant look.

Continuous panels run from the ridge of the roof all the way down to the eaves and are fastened by hidden clips creating a roofing system without penetrations.

Flat Roofing Materials

Modified Bitumen Roofing

Modified Bitumen Roofing, commonly known as “torch on roofing”, was born out of the desire to improve bitumen waterproofing characteristics by adding rubber (SBS) to the bitumen. An SBS blend is more elastic than bitumen. The blend performs better when roof is exposed to significant increases or decreases in ambient temperature over short periods in time.

EPDM Roofing

EPDM is an extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) widely used in low-slope buildings in the North America and worldwide. Its two primary ingredients, ethylene and propylene, are derived from oil and natural gas.

TPO Roofing

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane made from polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber polymerized together. It is typically installed in a fully adhered or mechanically attached system, allowing the white membrane to remain exposed throughout the life of the roof.
